Regulations of the XIII International Art Symposium on Contemporary Art on the theme "Folk Games and Amusements" Yelabuga • July 9 – 18, 2018
Modern Tatarstan is a dynamically developing region, a cultural center of the Volga region. The pearl in the very heart of Tatarstan is the ancient merchant city of Yelabuga, where throughout many centuries representatives of different peoples, differing in their traditions and way of life, live in full harmony. Tatarstan, and in particular Yelabuga with its rich historical and cultural heritage, has long ago become a center of attraction for numerous tourists from all over the world. They are attracted by the polyethnicity and polyconfessionality of the republic's population living in close ethno-cultural mutual influence and interpenetration of traditions.
Yelabuga is one of the few historical centers of the Republic of Tatarstan, rich in names of people known all over the world, a city that is actively developing nowadays. Yelabuga is the birthplace of the world-famous painter I. Shishkin. It is symbolic that Yelabuga, after almost a century, revives pictorial traditions and gathers on its land connoisseurs of art from different parts of Russia and even abroad. A large number of different art projects are being carried out in Yelabuga. The leading role in these processes is played by the Yelabuga State Museum-Reserve, which every year expands its sphere of activity, developing and realizing new projects.
The history of art symposiums begins in 2006, when the I All-Russian Practical Symposium on Contemporary Painting dedicated to the 175th anniversary of the birth of I.Shishkin and the 1000th anniversary of Yelabuga was held. Almost immediately the art symposiums acquired an ethnic orientation with the aim of preserving the historical memory, national identity and the development of interethnic cultural dialogue. Since 2010, the project has received international status.
Another interesting art project - "Yelabuga Triennial of Ex-libris", which took off in 2012, grew to the international level. In 2017 the next graphic forum "Yelabuga Biennale of Unique Drawing" was held.
In total, over 12 years, the Museum-Reserve held 20 art projects, in which 570 artists from 21 countries took part: Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Hungary, Egypt, India, Kazakhstan, Canada, Kyrgyzstan, China, Russia, Serbia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Turkey, Uzbekistan, Ukraine, France, Czech Republic, Montenegro, Scotland (Great Britain). In total, they have created more than 1,000 works transferred to the collections of the Museum-Reserve for the replenishment of the Museum Fund of the Russian Federation.
From 9 to 18 July 2018, Yelabuga State Museum-Reserve holds the XIII International Art Symposium on Contemporary Art on the theme "Folk Games and Amusements". Its theme includes an artistic interpretation of folk games and amusements that reveal national traditions in the culture of different peoples. Participants of the symposium are asked to pay attention to: wedding and ceremonial games, traditional games-competitions, festive and children's games.
The folk game is a unique phenomenon of universal human culture. Passing from generation to generation, folk games absorbed the best national traditions. With the game in the broad meaning of this word is connected the concept of a holiday, fun, and rest.
In games, people's living conditions, their way of life, ideas of honor and courage, the desire to show strength and dexterity, creative thinking and the desire for victory are vividly reflected.
