XI International Art Symposium on modern art «Yelabuga Ark» on the theme «The Sacredness of folk songs»

Yelabuga is the largest tourist center of the Republic of Tatarstan, a city with a thousand years of history. Finno-Ugric, Turkic and Slavic peoples who lived here formed a powerful fusion of ancient cultures that formed the basis for the modern harmonious coexistence of different ethnic groups and religions. Yelabuga belongs to the few cities in Russia, where the old greatness of the merchant town of the XIX century was well preserved.
Homeland of the world famous painter Ivan Shishkin, Yelabuga is the place of communication of artists, poets, writers, musicians - both masters and young talents. Every year it attracts intellectuals for work, establishing professional contacts and exchanging experience. The leading role in these processes plays Yelabuga State Museum-Reserve, which every year expands the scope of its activities, developing and implementing new projects.
Of great importance among them are the art projects that in 2010 gained international status. Among them Art projects of the Museum-Reserve are of great importance and they acquired an international status since 2010. They were attended by the artists from 18 countries, such as: Canada, Serbia, Ukraine, Montenegro, Scotland, Egypt, China, India, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Turkey, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan and Russia.
All the art projects are aimed at preserving historical memory, national identity and the development of inter-ethnic cultural dialogue.
From 20 to June 29, 2016 Yelabuga State Historical-Architectural and Art Museum-Reserve will hold the XI International Art Symposium on modern art on the theme «The sacredness of folk songs». The themes include artistic interpretation of songs dedicated to the historical events, folk, epic songs, lullabies, couplets etc.
The purpose of the event is approval of interest to cultural traditions of peoples as an important part of national identity in modern art through the popularization of ethnic folklore in modern Russian and foreign artists’ painting and drawing.
The outcome of the symposium will be creation by its participants the works on a given theme, followed by the obligatory transferring these works to the funds of Yelabuga State Museum-Reserve for replenishing the museum fund of the Russian Federation.
Objectives of the symposium
1. Inviting of artists from different regions of Russia and near and far abroad countries for participation in the XI International Art Symposium on modern art on the theme «The sacredness of folk songs» and providing conditions for their creative communication and exchanging experience;
2. Providing a platform for the realization of creative abilities of the artists in order to maximize disclosure of ideas on the theme of the Art Symposium;
3. Organizing master classes within the frame of the XI International Art Symposium for project participants, teachers of art schools, Yelabuga College of Culture and Arts and the higher Art schools in order to expand and deepen their knowledge and skills in the field of printmaking;
4. Formation of the fund of Yelabuga State Museum-Reserve with the works of modern artists-participants of the XI International Art Symposium;
5. Формирование передвижной выставки работ участников ХI Международного арт-симпозиума;
6. Publication of the catalog of the XI International Art symposium on modern art on the theme «The sacredness of folk songs».
Within the framework of the symposium, participants must create 1 or 2 work. Creative work can be performed in the technique of painting (oil on canvas, acrylic), graphics (unique and printed) in accordance with the theme of the symposium «The sacredness of folk songs».
Artists will be provided with canvas (no larger than 120 × 120 cm), paper (watercolor, for drawing and printing), clay, textiles and an etching device if necessary.
Participants will have to bring with them paints, brushes, graphic materials, cutting tools, printing plates and other necessary materials to create works.
In parallel with the work on a given theme of the Symposium artists are recommended to turn to writing an ethnic portrait of contemporary on the theme «The world is reflected in our faces». Models for the portrait will become participants of the symposium, dressed in their national costumes.
During the Symposium master classes will be held.
Obligations of the parties
1. Obligations of organizers:
— provide the equipped room to hold a symposium;
— prepare canvas or paper on the participant’s application;
— provide easels for work;
— provide accommodation and meals;
— provide the organization and holding the round table on the XI International Symposium on modern art on the theme «The sacredness of folk songs»;
— ensure, if necessary, translation into English and German for foreign participants during the events on the program of the Symposium;
— organize an exhibition at the Exhibition Hall of Yelabuga State Museum-Reserve at the end of the Symposium;
— reward all the participants of the XI International Art Symposium with diplomas and gifts;
— edit an album-catalog of works created during the XI International Art Symposium, and give one copy to each participant.
2. Obligations of the participants:
— the participant who received an official invitation of the organizers should confirm in writing the fact of participation in the XI International Art Symposium on contemporary art on the theme «The sacredness of folk songs» (in electronic form);
— have available instruments and consumable material (brushes, paint, graphics, and cutters, printing plates);
— have a national costume;
— take a personal part in master classes organized within the framework of the XI International Art Symposium:
1) S.Gilyazetdinov, Honored Artist of Bashkortostan (Ufa), will hold a master class in the mixed printed graphics, colored linocut;
2) S.Gorbachev, Honored Artist of Russia (Kirov), will present a master class on the engraving on cardboard;
— take part in the discussion of the results of educational master classes.
In the XI International Art Symposium on modern art «Yelabuga Ark" on the theme "The sacredness of folk songs" can take part members of professional artistic creative unions (if the Application Form was given in time and if there is an official invitation from the organizers).
Family members of participants wishing to take part in the Symposium can contact the organizers about the possibility of staying at the Symposium at their own expense.
Participants have no right to claim any compensation and remuneration for participation in the exhibition and the events organized under the program, as well as for the exposure of their works and / or for use in catalogs, on websites and in information and advertising materials of the XI International Art Symposium on modern art.

Terms and conditions
XI International Art Symposium on modern art on the theme «The sacredness of folk songs» will be held from 20 to 29 June 2016.
The arrival date of the participants is June 20, 2016.
Exhibition of works performed by the participants of the XI International Art Symposium will be officially opened June 28, 2016 at the Exhibition Hall of Yelabuga State Museum-Reserve.
1. Payment for accommodation and meals and cultural program is at the expense of organizers;
2. Transportation to Yelabuga and back is at the expense of the sending party or the expense of the participant;
3. Application Form for participation (Attachment № 1) is accepted until June 10, 2016, email address: firstname.lastname@example.org. Some 4–5 photos with the image of the author's works on different subjects (in electronic form); should be attached to the Application Form;
4. Applicants approved by the Art Council of Yelabuga State Museum-Reserve will be officially invited to participate in the XI International Art Symposium on modern art on the theme «The sacredness of folk songs».
